You would probably already have an overpayment if part of the payment you are getting was for lost wages and at the same time you were getting benefits then you have to repay the benefits you were getting. Child tax credits is not affected by capital so don't worry about that one. Housing and council tax benefit is and you will need to nofity them of a change in circumstances. If you have over £16,000 then the benefit will stop. Letters is best but a phone call or a visit to the council will speed things up.We are getting a large interim payment for Oh's accident by chaps on thursday.
I would like to know how to 'come off' benefits properly so I dont get any over payments.
We get
Housing benefit / council tax benefit
ESA
Child tax credit
Can I just ring them all or would letters be best?
Thank you

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Hi it is just an interim payment at this stage and doesnt include any loss of earnings, I believe when OH gets the final settlement the benefits will get paid back out of that as that includes all the loss of earnings, we have requested a certificate from the compensation recovery unit.
I will call local council and inform them, thinknig I should take a change of circs form into the offices.
ESA are a nightmare on the phone, where would I send a letter to? The address that comes on the letters?0 -

Yes, there are procedures for the CRU to get details of benefits paid from the department paying them.
