Hi
I'm looking at replacing my clapped out car and have been to one local dealer today to have a look at cars.
Clearly I don't know what's a good deal and what isn't. How do I know they're prices aren't inflated and what I should pay. Years ago my dad used to use Parkers, is that still a reliable guide to use (and is it available on the internet or do I have to buy the book)

There is now a Parkers website; http://www.parkers.co.uk/ its usefull for reviews, write ups and as a general guide. You can also cross check prices on autotrader and even eBay as to what kind of prices similar cars are getting.
Also there are many very usefull forums out there related to specific car makes and models. If you are looking for/at a specific model then a search for a forum and perhaps a post on there asking what to look out for if buying a used model.
Good luck.0 -
do your homework before leaving a deposit
see your old car as worthless and not part of the deal and work from there on price negotation length of warranty whether its done inhouse etc
remember also that some cars are high tax brackets so use the parker link to check this before you purchase0 -
Check the mileage and then research to see what the service intervals are and what's due on the next service - if it's a high mileage fleet car it may have something big and costly like a cambelt change coming due, see if you can get it thrown in as part of the deal.
If you like it and are considering buying it, check EVERY feature - washers, blowers, aircon, lights, etc.0
