The spite/jealousy evoking from some posters here is pathetic. Especially since none of them are actually giving the OP answers.
FYI, this sort of thing is stupendously common where by an overseas student is receiving spending allowance from the folks at home. I know because I knew tons of friends like that uni - especially from China, and often allowances from their folks ALWAYS came in somewhere between £1500 and £3K.
Being international students and not allowed to work more than 20hrs, they are usually supported by their folks long into graduation.
Those saying it's a lie simply need to check how much their international tuition fees (not to mention living costs) are. 20K to 30K are the fees, so 2K allowance for accommodation etc is typical.
OP, ask the lender by phone.0 -

Very true. I studied alongside a Chinese girl who got herself a bit upset because her bank had been ringing her a lot. Her English wasn't great at that point (fresh off the boat), and she didn't understand what they wanted from her. Cue a bizarre group trip to an inner-city Barclays branch. They were concerned (and likely very very interested) because she had £1m sitting in a current account, rather than a savings account. One. Million. Pounds.0 -
Hi,
Not sure if i have done this right as I only joined today and this was the only way I could see to post something so here goes. My partner works for a loan company and gets paid on a commission basis (what he collects he gets commission) over the last few months the company have put in a pot movement scheme in other words if some of his bad payers don't pay then he gets fined anything from £5.00 up wards which can lead to him being fined up to £100.00 in a week which takes a big chunk off his commission, some of the other agents are being fined in excess of £150.00. Is this legal? If any one has any ideas about this or if I have posted this wrong them please let me know.0 -

IN my halls we had a couple of chinese students, was chilling one day in one of their rooms, was a bit bored decided to go to pub. He then says he needs to get some money, no worries bank on the way, he then goes under his bed pulls out a holdall opens it up and ive never seen as much money in my life!! (work in a cash office aswell) were easily talking 100k in bundles of 20's. My initial thought was how the hell he got it in the country i thought the limit of carrying money abroad was 10k!
Needless to say i was taking him to the bank a few days later (tried to get him to nip in the bookies on the way but he was having none of it! tight !!!!)
And i thought i was doing well as a student with my £20 in pennies!!
Some self control that though, if i was given that sort of money and sent abroad at that age i definately would be an idiot!!0
