1 year placement - council tax? student card? What happens

Hey hey
Well now that I have a job sorted for next year I'm now looking for a place to live with my darling girlfriend!
The job is a required "module" of my degree so I do get assessed and it goes towards my final.
My girlfriend will prob do a 1 year course at Park Lane college in Leeds but part time/evenings as she'll be in full tiem work as well.
So the questions
1) Do I have to pay council tax?
2) Does she have to pay council tax?
3) Will i get a student card and student discount on things like my Esporta gym membership?
Basically am I still classed as a student?
Thanks

You're definately still classes as a Student - I'll be doing a placement next year. Mines a 4 year course, so the placement year still counts as part of your course.
I don't know how this affects you paying council tax though.0 -
Hi
You are still classed as a full time student for council tax purposes. However, your girlfriend is not. So effectively your girlfriend will be classed as a 'single resident' and have to pay council tax. However, single residents get a discount of 25% so your property will be liable for council tax but it'll be 75% of the normal rate. The fairest thing seems to split this 75% half way since you will both be earning.

Ye thats what we plan to do! Split the council tax!
Glad we get the 25% off though.
To get a student card we have to go in at the beginning of the year and collect it. If i'm somewhere else working how can i do this?

Yes you will be classed as a student

I'm currently on my placement year, I got my university to renew my NUS for me, and they also gave me my new student ID card for this year. I managed to do it all by post, they sent me my normal uni card, etc by post, then I sent in my old NUS and they sorted that out for me too. I'm still able to receive the student prices on everything.
It's certainly good experience if you go on a placement, mine is very hard work at the moment!!!
Good luck with it.
