Buildings Insurance on previously subsided property

We bought our property 10 years ago. Half of it had just been piled because of subsidence. We have continued our insurance cover with the company who had paid for the work, now owned by Zurich. I have just tried to get a quote fron Norwich Union and they have declined our application because of the previous subsidence. Dose anyone know how common this is, should we stick with Zurich as I am worried about being turned down by insurance companies as I am often asked if I have ever has insurance declined.

    Hi -
We have had a similar problem to you in that our house has "historic settlement" and even though in our surveyor's report this was considered to be "historic and non-progressive" it still poses a problem for both buildings and contents insurance.
Like you, we have tried (and failed) to get alternative insurance, and in our case decided to stick with insurance through our mortgage provider, who knew about the "histoic settlement" when they agreed our mortgage.
I think even if another company is willing to consider insuring you under these circumstances, it is likely they will want to charge for coming out and surveying the property to assess their risk, so would end up costing more anyway?

I am about to move into a farmhouse with "historic and non-progressive subsidence". Barclays have added £70 to my current buildings insurance premium. Get your policy via Quidco and recieve £120, (don't mention the subsidence they won't give you a quote) then when you receive your policy
documents, give Barclays a call and amend your policy
