Not all of Rochford is under the flight path! We live on what was originally called the Anne Boleyn estate, mainly 1930s bungalows. Depending on which direction they're taking off, we see the planes pass our back garden, but as they're up and gone in a few seconds it doesn't cause us any bother.

There's also the new station at the airport as well as the existing one at Rochford so you're close to the Southend Victoria - Liverpool Street rail line.

These are the junior and infants' schools in Rochford:

Most planes I believe take off and land from/towards Leigh/Westcliff area and not Rochford at all and then pass down the Thames Estuary over Hadleigh Castle etc. I would think Rochford itself may well benefit from teh airport activity in the longer run and house prices may well eventually increase over and above

Southend airport is a huge bonus for the area as the majority of local residents seem to agree and is a pleasure to use to be honest. It will however expand so anything under the direct flightpath is not going to get quieter in the medium term!

I've been told that the direction they take off is in relation to the wind direction, and we've watched them take off in both directions on different days. It also depends where they're going - we've watched the Irish planes turn west when they get to a certain altitude, and the holiday flights - Faro, Alicante and all the others - turn east.

Since I came here to live I've watched that airport gradually die, while everybody argued the toss and all the nay-sayers had their field day. We had the little club planes - which actually make more noise than the holiday flights because they buzz around like wasps - and apart from them, only one Jersey flight in and out on Saturdays in summer. We had one Ford flight daily to Cologne and then that stopped. I couldn't be more pleased that it is actually rising from the ashes.

    Is Sweyne school closed?

There used to be a rhyme, "The twits go to Fitz and the brains go to Sweyne's".
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.
