North East Kent, I imagine - somewhere like Broadstairs?
Have a look here
Trains are reasonably good out of Charing Cross, via Waterloo East & London Bridge.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

There's Southend in Essex, Whitstable in Kent, Bournemouth if you want a sandy beach.
Would you go by car or train?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Could you speak to the doctors and nurses? They may know some respite places/charities that would help you both achieve this.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Camber is a good beach with sand
Or alternatively, Whitstable, in North Kent? Or Hythe? and than visiting Sandgate? Or even Dymchurch? Southend on Sea is probably the nearest and quickest to get to by train. Fenchurch Street or Liverpool Street lines take you into Southend in about an hour (Fenchurch Street line slightly quicker and cheaper and Southend Central is more centrally located in the high street)
Depending on budget Rosslin Hotel is nice (worth a visit even if not staying) and more towards Thorpe Bay. Premier inn also on sea front towards Southchurch/Thorpe Bay. Right in the centre of the sea front is Park Inn Plaza which is on the site of the old Palace hotel
The sea front has been done up hugely over past few years and is a nice place to visit and plenty of places to eat right on the sea front now including SAnds and Ocean Beach, as well as the Arches cafes
Saying all that I've vsitied (and stayed) at Whitstable and that is lovely, and Bournemouth is a much larger place with great beaches but a bit further away I would imagine0 -
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Eastbourne.
Brighton is convenient and pleasant, although the beach has pebbles rather than sand.0 -
I forgot about Eastbourne, which is silly really as I was there last week, and it's quite nice to walk/mooch around near the sea and Pier. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

North East Kent has stunning beaches but it isn't very close to London - with Broadstairs being about as far away as you can get in this direction!0 -

But a train from London Bridge will get you there in 1h 45m.
Point taken though :T, as the fastest train to Whitstable is 1h 20m. Better still IMHO would be Herne Bay
Camber was mentioned, but it's relatively inaccessible, unless you have a car. Even then, it's a tortuous journey on rubbish roads
Eastbourne's OK, but the beaches tend to be shingle/sand and nowhere near as sandy as NE Kent (apart from Camber)
I live in East Sussex (10 miles from Hastings) and the problem with this part of the coast is that the beaches are pebble/shingle from Sandwich (where the sandy part of the beach is used by naturists!) right round to .....? Weymouth, I think! OP mentioned sand ....

Ah I guess the roads aren't the best towards Camber if you are used to faster roads, and if the lady doesn't like travelling, the twisty roads will not be good. And on hot days, the roads does get blocked up. There is a bus service that goes to Camber, but it's hourly. Camber was seemingly busy at the weekend.
DTC, you know the area well, so good suggestions
It's true though, Camber is the only sandy beach for miles as the others are pebbled, Winchelsea beach pebbled, but unique with the petified forest.
