Adding named drives

Hi I know car types can greatly affect price but this seems slightly extreme.

I have a 2005 ford focus 1.4 5 door and do 8000 miles. Im only 23 but had licence for 6 years with 3 years no claims. I do however have 3 points for driving with mobile phone and my insurance quote for year is around 400. My boyfriend is also a named driver.

His car is a vauxhall astra 2004 coupe 1.6 and does no more than 10,000. He is 30 with a licence for 6 years no claims for 4 years and no convinctions.

His insurance renewal quote just for him is 600 and by adding me on policy takes it up to 1000

Both cars have policys for sdp and commuting and both are kept in secure residential car park at night and office car park during the day.

I cant understand why a slightly bigger engine and it being a coupe make a difference of nearly 600 pounds. Been looking on comparison website and lowest im finding is about 650 is this the best i can expect?

As far as I know about this thing, most of the insurance companies also do rely on the size of the engine. It is because, probably at the time of any mishap like that of an accident, damage etc the recovery of the bigger size engine is much more than that of the small sized engine in terms of expenses and mostly insurance companies have same policies regarding the bigger sized engines.

Young driver with a conviction is not the sort of business that most insurers want.

You say you have 3 years NCD, as a named driver this makes no difference, what is important is how many years claim free you have been. If you made a claim in the last 5 years it is just going to be the nail in the coffin

Add the word coupe and they assume he thinks its a sports car and will try to drive it like one.

The number of claims for that model of vehicle probably proves them right.
