Am I commiting fraud?

I am just getting a few basic bank accounts setup for the purpose of piggybanking, I know exactly how much will be going in and out of all of these accounts from my own personal current account. However on all forms and everytime I speak to one of the staff they always ask "do you have any other current accounts".

Now the moment I say yes they go into the usual sales rubbish about changing my direct debits etc etc over to the new account. None of this is of any interest to me as it serves no purpose, and i've no desire to get chit chatty with them at all.

If I were to say no I do not have any other accounts will I be therby commiting fraud or just keeping my own private business private?

It is none of their business. Only if you are planning to perpetrate a fraud using multiple accounts could your action(s) be deemed 'of interest'. Who you choose to bank with is your concern - although by asking they are not merely bweing nosey. If you are depositing money, your protection in case the firm goes bust may be impacted if you have multiple accounts and only one lot of protection - this would at least alert you to the potential problem.

to avoid it do everything online as then they won't try selling you everything, as even over the phone they try to sell you the wind the rain and the hail and everything else and it gets a bit annoying after a while

I always say I want to see how the account is operated before I transfer everything over.
