Holiday been cancelled - insurance costs

My friend's holiday has been cancelled by the tour operator - too few people had booked. Anyway, as it is over 6weeks before the travel date the cost of the holiday will be refunded. My question is that travel insurance was required for this holiday and my friend, being a moneysaver, bought a single trip policy from an insurance company. My question is, can she claim the cost of this policy from the tour operator? After all they required a policy to be taken out.

Perhaps ask for it and don't be surprised if the answer is no.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Unless you buy a policy from the operator themselves, and few now offer it, your insurer certainly won't offer a refund but it is worth asking the operator. They may try to sell another holiday instead but if it is not what you want, it seems the loss is the result of their decision to cancel0

Would the insurer transfer the policy to another single trip assuming your friend is booking another holiday to replace the cancelled one?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Surely your friend had an option to purchase insurance or not? in which case that would mean it was her decision to buy or not? i'm not sure about this but would think you wouldn't get the insurance policy money back just the cost of the holiday as they didn't provide the services they had agreed to. moggy0

The OP says it was a requirement, I still doubt that a refund would be forthcoming especially as the cancellation part of the insurance has been in place and could have been used by the OP (friend)MOGGYMALONE wrote: »Surely your friend had an option to purchase insurance or not? in which case that would mean it was her decision to buy or not? i'm not sure about this but would think you wouldn't get the insurance policy money back just the cost of the holiday as they didn't provide the services they had agreed to. moggy0 -
Thank you people. The insurance company will transfer to another holiday at the SAME time but really much of a concession. I wasn't expecting the insurance company to do anything - after all they haven't cancelled and won't have to pay out. It's the tour operator I feel should be compensating - I will suggest to my friend that she requests compensation for her loss from the tour operator - fingers crossed. Of course with an annual travel policy this would not have been an issue. It's disappointing enough to have a holiday cancelled at relatively short notice but to then be out of pocket too.0
