Ex Bankrupt

Hi,

I'm losing out by not having a debit card, I can't buy things online or take advantage of chap deals etc...

Due to unfortunate circumstances I was made bankrupt in 2004, I was discharged in 2005. I only have a normal cashcard account with nationwide, they said they were unable to to give me a current account due to credit rating. I'm in my first year as a full time student and Nationwide don't do student accounts.

Does anyone know who would accept me for a student account being an ex-bankrupt as they all seem to issue a debit card with these types of acounts?

Or any other options? Im not looking for a loan or credit card because I understand they can't take the risk, but I can't wait another 3/4 years without a debit card, it's so unpractical in this day and age.

Thanks in advance

if you want to buy things online have you considered a prepaid credit card.

I have a Halifax current account and 3 credit cards and a perfect credit rating plus lived and voted from the same address for 14 years and Nationwide refused me - could only have a cashcard !!!!

Does it have to be a student account. Wouldn't a normal current account with a debit card suffice?

I'd have a bash at Halifax, Co-op and or NatWest for current accounts with debit card facility.

  • Hey jonathan, I think you've come up with the solution. :T I feel a bit stupid for not thinking about a prepaid credit card. I'll do some checks myself to see who's got the best rates but any recommendations?
