Just spend them! Why save them up? Next time something costs £4.61 instead of just lazily handing over a fiver, see if you have the right change, and never build up loads of loose change in the first place... And to get rid of what you've got, just take 20p worth of coppers out with you each day and aim to spend it.

Thanks everyone for your replies. There are no coinstar machines in the local supermarkets but hadn't thought of using the self service tills & paying with my small change, thanks for that.
And its not that I collect them up as such I just for some reason can't stand having 1ps and 2ps in my purse so I immediately take them out. I'm not really someone who carries a lot of cash, tend to use my card more often. But might try the idea of taking £1 or so of it out with me and seeing if I can get rid of some of it that way.

I used to accumulate lots of loose change, but solved the problem by using a card wherever allowed (which seems to be pretty much everywhere that I use).

Neither can I. I have a small collection box in my kitchen provided by a local charity so I throw my shrapnel in there. When it's full I take it into their office and they empty it & send it back to me with a note of how much was in there -usually about £10-12 at a time (plus Gift Aid) which they are very grateful for!
