House sign - weather protection?

I've just put up a new house sign. It a metal plate with the house name in green and white paint. The sort of signs that you see at the likes of Timpsons etc.
I replaced a previous sign that had weathered. It was the same sort of thing, but some of the paint had peeled off. Is there anything that can be used to protect the new sign? Any coating or spray?

You could tray spraying a few coats of clear Laquer over it (Halfords stock it), should protect it pretty well.
Practice spraying on something else first if you've not done it before though.0 -
Marine varnish! I used it on our cast iron sign."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0
