Barclaycard Application - Taking Ages!

How long does it normally take to get a new Barclaycard? I applied for a Barclaycard Platinum card 6 weeks ago and I've still not heard one way or the other. I have rang them three times and have been told each time that I will receive a letter in the next 5 to 10 days.
Is no news, bad news? (I have previously had a good credit record but was out of work for 4 months last year).
Cheers!

Does not look good to me....if you've been told will receive a letter then it's most probably a decline...0

Hmm I'm inclined to agree...Barclays never usually take that long for anything, I got my new Barclaycard within a week. Credit history is a mysterious beast...you can have a score in the 900's and still get turned down for stuff.0

I recently applied and the application was approved within a minute online. If there was talk of them sending you a letter I'm assuming there was something on your application and/or credit file that required a human being to look at your application in more detail. While you've not been accepted immediately I don't think this necessarily means a decline but given the amount of time passed it doesn't look too favourable. They should have informed you by now though.0

You can also be bankrupt and living on benefits and have a score in the 900's with experian.0 -
A credit score of 999 means absolutely nothing. It's the individual lender's criteria that counts.
If you've ever paid to see your credit score on a CRA's website, you've been mugged.0 -
Thanks for the replies, might have to try another card then!0

Finally got a letter off Barclaycard accepting my application, it's took them 10 weeks to respond.
It's took them that long, I don't need the card anymore, I've transfered my balance onto another card!0 -

I don't know, they sent me a letter accepting my application but I need to sign something and post it back to them as their terms had changed over the period of time it has taken them to process the application!0 -

Barclaycard come second to MBNA with credit limits. It's not uncommon for those with good credit records to receive limits of £10-20K and those with average to get £5-10K.0
