I suppose the VAT inspectors will now have to go round taking swabs of heated cabinets to make sure there is no trace of pasty.

I realize it goes against the accepted narrative of 'heartless Tory bstards taxing pasties' but the only reason for this was to close a stupid loophole. If you buy your pasty from Greggs you will pay no VAT. If you go to the chippie next door you pay full VAT.
Of course the simplest way to get rid of the anomalies would be to put VAT on everything at half the current rate but of course it's immoral to tax food. Although it's fine to tax the sellers and producers of food which is exactly the same thing.
The problem with engaging in infantile political debate is you end up with infantile politics and policies.0
