Compensation - how much to ask for

Hello everyone!
I'm just after a bit of advice really. I'm currently in the United States, at a hotel in Hollywood. I'm over here on research for one more week (I've been here for two weeks). I picked the hotel for a few reasons; free breakfast, good location, but primarily, it has a pool. I am a massive fan of swimming, particularly in 80F heat! I am here alone, my boyfriend is coming to meet me next week.
Everything else at the hotel has been fine. I cannot complain at all. It's been very clean, the breakfast is lovely, the staff are very pleasant. The problem is that from the day I arrived, Monday, May 14th, the pool has been empty. On the Tuesday, I asked the manager when the pool would be fixed. He said 2-3 days. The following Monday, the pool was still empty. I asked again, he said, 'hopefully tomorrow.' He said he had updated the website to say that the pool was undergoing renovation. I said to him at the time that I hoped it would be fixed by this weekend as I was going to be staying at the hotel the whole weekend (memorial weekend).
Well, it's the Monday now, and it's still empty. The website hasn't been updated. And I have a sneaky feeling that it's not going to get fixed by the time I leave. Should this be the case, am I entitled to some compensation? The reason I picked this hotel was part and parcel because of the pool! I'm not a person who cries wolf and who claims for compensation a lot, but as I say, I'm alone for three weeks, I want to be able to have a swim! It's something for me to do at the beginning and the end of my day. I wasn't warned that the pool would be empty or undergoing renovation, if I was, I would have booked elsewhere.
Should I ask for compensation? How much should I ask for? I have no idea what figure is reasonable? I paid £1195 for the 3 weeks.
Please help!
Tracey

Firstly I would have thought the manager should come up with some alternative ie a nearby hotel/swimming pool facility to use FOC. It is always difficult for a monetary value to be established so secondly, and in addition to the above I think you should be treated to a couple of meals (evening?) in their restaurant if they have one with a free bottle of vino. Say you will wait for this until your boyfriend gets out. Come to an amicable arrangement but push for as much as they are willing to give - £400 pw doesn't sound expensive in the first place to me.0

Surely you could have moved elsewhere if it bothered you that much?0

Damn right you should get compensation I reckon you should be pushing for at least a fiver!
Seriously though, as previously stated, why not look for a local facility where you can swim and get the hotel to try and sort you out to use the alternative facilities.
Im off to LA in sept and, again as previously said, thats cheap as chips for 3 weeksLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0
