You gave some good advice in your post but what you have said above about the instructor being able to place restrictions on a CBT is incorrect. On issuing a CBT certificate the instructor has no power to place restrictions on the person who has completed the CBT.

A person having taken CBT on an automatic scooter can get on a manual bike without further training but if they want to ride a manual bike it makes sense to do the CBT on a manual.

The Driving Standards Agency are looking at making CBTs specific to the type of bike the CBT was completed on and I suspect this will come into effect within the next couple of years.

oops my bad :p been a while since I done mine, but it stuck in my mind that where I done mine said they wouldn't be putting any restrictions on it, or maybe I just got muddled up with my 2 year restriction

No worries:) You take in a lot of information when you do CBT for the first time so it is easy to mix things up.

I can recommend the Suzuki van van - great to ride, very comfy, the only downside being tht they aren't particularly fast, but when you have a bike with such retro good looks then you don't need to speed eveywhere!
