Their is no difference in the call charges to normal BT service.(Option 1 etc).
But if you have a line used exclusively for a burglar alarm (this does not include "lifeline" alarm systems which are also used as telephones. Or if you have a line with someone else. You dont qualify.

am i right in reading this about BTs lite user tariff:
http://www.bt.com/Pricing/pis_info.jsp?PRICE_OPTION=Residential/PIS_Other_Call_Schemes/PIS_Light_User_Scheme&showsub=PIS_Residential&showsub2=PIS_Other_Call_Schemes&showsub3=PIS_Light_User_Scheme&showsub=PIS_Residential&showsub2=PIS_Other_Call_Schemes&showsub3=PIS_Light_User_Scheme&obsType=LINK&obsOID=30185&vStore=1314&obsPage=/Pricing/pis_infojsp&obsNoSee=Y
that if you have a mobile phone with a company completely unconnected to BT you dont qualify?

£12 a month for a line rental only is a monopolistic ripoff, considering how much i pay for unlimited broadband, mobiles etc.
I guess the lite user scheme is a requirement set by government but hidden away and made as dificult as possible to qualify for by BT without incurring the wrath of the toothless telcoms regualtor OFTEL who are as nearly as useless and on the bosses side as ICSTIS, rant over. - apologies

BT no longer has a monopoly - many other providers now offer line rental (some even charge less than BT too).
BTW, Oftel ceased to exists some years ago - Ofcom took over (and is just as useless).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
