Is a wii any good for exercise and improving coordination?
I am really rubbish at sport and would like to improve my coordination before I do any - so I am not too bad.
However is a Wii any good?
My lounge is too small for a Kinnect (I think).

sure it does! because swinging a golf club, tennis bat, or whatever other "sport" induced game control out there is the same as the sport in real life.
They are good to compliment if you are doing sport in a fun way, not an only doing that instead of keep fit way, but I wouldn't say they're a good starter to do before actually doing sport.
I'd suggest you approach your local gym and ask about taster sessions of various sport. Look at the local papers, find local sports clubs, and contact and ask if they offer taster sessions or beginners sessions.
You can only make an idiot of yourself if you think you are. mind over matter, you are doing it to make yourself feel better, get better at whatever sport you're doing, and for socialising, and general fun. Don't worry that you're gunna mess up, do something wrong, anything like that, else you'll never do it. just get out and join in. Half the fun at the start is messing up and doing it wrongly!0 -

A Wii will help you in exactly the same way as Guitar Hero will help you to play the guitar and Grand Theft Auto will make you a better driver

Reminds me of the endless arguments with my friends who play football on their consoles and claim to be the next Giggs. I remind them that Giggs not only uses his feet, but kicks a globed shaped object around a rectangular field, as per how football is played.
The Wii is good for accidentally breaking objects around the house, but for exercise, compared to the real thing, a Wii is the lazyboy route to the real McCoy, good energetic sport.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I bought a wii a few years back and it was good fun, for a very short time, soon found out you can play the games sitting down and just waving your hand! Plus you need to be standing on a board, holding a controller in each hand, with the possibility of smashing the TV.
I then bought an xbox with kinnect - much the better option IMHO. You really do have to move around a bit (with hands free and no board), the games are great (compared to the same old same old Mario stuff on the wii). So much more fun when there are a couple of you, as you can play at the same time.
Space wise, the kinnect does have a minimum distance you need to be able to move effectively, and the sensor does lose you if you are not the required distance too / from the sensor. My room isn't massive and a quick move of the TV does the trick.
On the plus side for the wii, they are quite cheap on ebay now.
In short, go for the xbox, you will only regret it if you don't...0 -
