Hello,

I am totally new to all of this gas and electric mullarkey. We are moving into a 2 bedroom home in the North East of England. I am trying to figure out how much to expect to pay per month.

I am originally from California so this is all new to me as far as how it works.

Can you help with some ideas of cost?

Many thanks!,

Dave

The UK average is 16,500kWh for gas and 3,300kWh for electric for an average property. You have a smaller home than average so would use less however you live in the North East which is a bit colder than average so would use more than average. If you put £100 a month aside then you should be OK. It will be more in winter and less in summer so as we are in summer just pay £100 a month now and in winter you will not be hit with a large bill.

Read your meters regularly. They only need to be read once a year but you will not get any idea of usage that way. You can read them weekly and enter the readings on a site such as http://ebico.imeasure.org.uk/ and that will give you an idea if what you are using is good or not and whether your annual estimate is too low or too high.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
