Payment taken twice from account

Hi
I paid for my flight to Canada using my debit card. After having used my husbands credit card to pay (he spoke to authorise this) they rang the next day as it is apparently policy to ring to verify the next day. Not knowing this my husband went off to work abroad where he is uncontactable. So had to use my debit card. I ensured enough money was in there and had £96 left after paying. On checking my balance yesterday I had the 96 showing but it said I was minus £600. After much panicing I realised this was the same amount I had paid previously to Air canada. Bank confirmed thy have tried to take more money (exact same amount as previous payment) but said can do nothing. Airline said there is no record of this and they havent requested the payment again. If it is an error then it should come back to my account in 7 days! Neither bank or aircanada very helpful and I now cant access the money in my account as it is frozen due to the pending (error) payment and direct debits are not being paid either for which I will be charged. How can they expect me to go a week with no money!
Can anyone offer any advice please? Thanks

It's not a pending pasyment but a 'shadow' charge - some merchants do this to earmark funds prior to making a formal request for a debit. When this is taken, the shadow charge disappears - BUT if payment it taken on a different card for some reason, the original shadow charge can stay on file for 7 days. There's no chargeback to claim, as the funds have been earmarked but not taken.
Car rental firms are famous for this. It should resolve itself without any action on your part.0
