guys i need some help you wont believe this i still dont i had taken my mum to the airport and when i got home the kids said that a woman had been round asking for daddy then he told me a friend of his mums had come round to ask why we had not cashed acheque that had been sent to us 18 months ago and OH said we hadnt had it
it transpires that it was a large bequest from OH s nan
now i then went round to ohs mum to find out what was going on we havent spoken to her in 2 years as she is the mum in law from hell anyhoo she said she sent a cheque last nov and that we hadnt cashed it i said we never got it she called me a liar i asked if she had proof of posting or recorded she said no anyway it turns out that there was a large bequest which is sitting in a bank account that her and her twin sister need to sign the cheque to release it and as the sister only sees her about once a month we cant have another one till she sees her ok i said she asked me if i knew how much it was for i said no although i do and i also said please send this one recorded i even gave her £3 to do this
got home told oh and then we get a phone call from the twin ranting and raving now she wants aa letter from OH to the effect stating what he wants now i think this should be a soliciters letter as we know how much the capitol is but not the interest is and also i dont want him signing any thing away as we do not have a copy of the will we asked for one the sister said no OH said did she want a soliciters letter she said that she didnt think oh should have the money and ranted on and on OH said fine i will send you a letter and put the phone down
I know i seem money grabbing but he is entitled to this frrom his nan it was what she wanted and i dont want them dictating what should be done these are the people who left OHs name and the kids names off the eulogy at the crem
help please what do i do

Sounds like a solicitor's letter might be a good idea, yes. Makes it all formal and official, just stating that he never received the cheque that he has been told was previously sent and that he would like a cheque made out to 'XXX' and wants it sent via registered delivery, which you have left the money for.
Shouldn't be too expensive at all.
PS You don't sound money grubbing, you just sound like you and your husband want what his nan wanted him to have. Seems reasonable to me!!!0 -
it doesnt seem to be his mum just the aunt who is positivly vile i just wish that they would give us a copy of the will as we dont know what it said although the mothers friend said it was xxx amount why she came we dont know we are still shocked but i am sure if its in the will like it or not they have got to give it to OH unfortunatly they hate me we are still married after 17 years and happy0

tiredmum, the will is a public document. Anyone has a right to see it and your aunt has no legal right to refuse this. Our local newspaper used to publish a summary of interesting recent wills, especially where the amount bequested was large.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90
Sealed Pot Challenge #9 £162.98
Sealed Pot Challenge #10 £33.10

as others have said you are entitled to see the will and I would only put anything in writing if it's through a solicitor. If it is a large sum of money then a bankers draft or a bank transfer would make more sense than writing a cheque and posting it. If your MIL and her sister are executors of the will then it is their legal duty to do its bidding.0

well have been to the CAB and this is the letter they will be getting in the morningJ
In respect of my Grandmothers wishes, Mrs E **** deceased. I have been informed that I am a beneficiary in her will.
As I have had no formal contact with you regarding this matter could you please forward any pertinent details relating to this bequest outlining any details that may apply to either my dependants or myself?
I also believe from verbal information that a sum of money has been left to me, could you forward this within 28 days of receipt of this letter to the above address.
As is in my rights as a beneficiary and your duty of care as executors could you forward details as to the calculation of this sum including outstanding interest from the account due me
From a telephone call on the 11/03/2007 from mrs L ***** I was informed that I need to inform you as executors as to what I want, it was not made clear to me what this meant. Therefore in accordance with your duty as executors would you please supply me with further details to this area of my Grandmothers will e.g. does this apply to personal possessions?
I have already left payment for registered post with Mrs J E*****, as the previous attempt to forward this money was not successful.
i am sure there will be some sort of vile phone call tomorrow so will be bracing ourselves also have ordered a copy of the will0 -
hope you get somewhere with it tired mum - if not then go to the solicitor next - if you know which solicitors the nan used to draw up the will then they may still have a copy on file so at least you would know what the actual bequest is.0
