Is British Gas Boiler scrappage a good deal?

I feel a bit naive asking this, but my boiler is a bit old, and I am getting work done on it every six months or so, and so I'm thinking about replacing it.

The whole British Gas / Scottish Gas scrappage thing seems like a good idea, but that is probably because it is the only place that does any sort of discounts that I have heard of - so the question is, is this a good idea, or is this an elegant marketing ploy which is effectively a rip off? If it is a bad idea, any suggestions for where to find a trusted boiler fitter in Edinburgh would be gratefully received...

    Of course it is.

Totally agree. They recently quoted an elderly relative of mine almost £6K :eek:for a replacement boiler/cylinder when a local independant quoted £2K!!

My sister had them a few months ago. They didnt want to replace her fire back boiler because they would have had to use scaffolding to put a flue liner down the chimney. So they talkked her into having the boiler in a bedroom for some reason and instead of a gas fire in her living room an electric hang on the wall type because there was no flue.
Worst thing she ever did was having BG. All they wanted to do was make it as easy for them as they could. If they come up against anything difficult they dont want to know

Anything with a British Gas logo on is not a good deal.
