Insurance for a fast car

Does anyone know companies that do cheaper insurance for fast cars?

I'm 26M, going to buy a honda civic type-R (insurance group 17 :eek: ) shortly. I've got 4 years no claims (been driving for 9 years). I've used confused.com etc... and got £750, but these are quotes from the "big players" of insurance - I was wondering if anyone had experience with a lesser known firm who specialised in this sort of thing who might be able to beat this quote?

Try Privilege or Elephant via their websites or A Plan on 01635 874646.Will be surprized if they cannot beat your quote.

Also try any forum for Honda or Type R and search on "insurance".

my husband as a TRV (although a bit older than you ) and was getting ridiculous quotes (hastings quoted almost £1000 :eek: ). I tried Privilige and was quoted £428 and in the end he went with A Plan for £380

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that CTRs are one of the top cars for insurance claims, whether it be stolen or crashed.

Why not look at similar cars? There are some much better cars out there for the same price with cheaper running costs.

As for the question you actually asked - I would go onto a CTR owners club forum and ask there because they should know some specialist insurers and give you some advice.

Any suggestions? I'm going to buy 2nd hand so budget is around £12K

EDIT: Just checked priviledge, was quoted £750 online :-(

Car is only one of the rating criteria... whilst there are insurers (and brokers) who target customer types it is generally a bad idea to look for them specifically as whilst you are a fast car driver you are possibly also an aspiring Jones and an insurer looking for aspiring Jones' may give you a bigger discount off base premium for this than one that looks for sports car owners.

Direct Line quoted me £450 for the Type R GT (new 07 model). I'm 30M and have full no claims, so it could be as you seem to have found the main players don't like the age/IG ratio.

I have a sports car and paid £800ish with elephant. Considering the comparisons were spitting out figures grom 900 - 1500, I was happy with this.

All seems to hinge on your postcode.

Elephant for me to for a Subaru Impreza. Under £650 for fully comp. I was with Tesco before that but they would only do me 3rd party unless I had a tracker installed I'm due for renewal in less than a month so no doubt I will be searching around for a quote as well.

Fab car choice!

I pay between £800 and £1k for insurance on my baby - good risk, full ncb, garaged the works.

She's a group 20 though (and so much fun!)

Keith Michaels gave me a reasonable quote, but they base it more on what you've been driving before. So if you're swapping from a 1.2 corsa to a CTR you'll not get much lower than with the 'normal' insurers.

PS - If your avatar is any guide to where you live, expect to be paying a lot! Manchester is one of the highest areas for insurance rates!
