Sorry for the title. It would appear that my 2 boys have threadworm. I've never come across this before and was wondering how to get them treated. Should I take them to the doctors or could the pharmacy help ? Whichever, what is the most cost effective medicine?

Im sure its highly contagious so I would suggest doctors straight away in the morning.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

Its quite common and the pharmacy can help as the treatments can be bought over the counter. They can be a pain to get rid of though because all it takes is one egg and the whole cycle starts again.0

You can buy treatments over the counter but you need to treat all the family, the pharmacist will advise you .bye hoo0

If they are both over the age of 2 you can buy treatments over the counter.
Good information about preventing reinfestation at http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=362§ionId=12361
I've got 3 kids and my eldest two have had them lots of times. Annoying but easily got rid of thankfully.0 -
Available to buy over the counter too! If you ask for it over the counter by name no one else knows what you are talking about either - unless they have requested it too!!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. But this is a Moneysaving site and prescriptions for children are free.

Yeh - but who has the time these days to faff around trying to get an appointment at the GP when Ovex only costs a few quid and you can pop in when Boots opens.Noli nothis permittere te terere

Ok I see your point! I am a newbie!
Try the following:-
Coconut (one tablespoon of freshly ground coconut taken at breakfast).
Garlic (is effective against a wide range of bacteria and parasites including threadworms).
Raw carrot (a safe treatment for threadworms, especially in children. A small cup of grated carrot taken every morning can be an effective treatment).Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I can always get an appointment same day at my GP surgery. Can't be fussy which of the 15 doctors I see but at least there is no wait.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I have a great doctor but she would never prescribe the tablets. I always had to get them at the chemist. I am sure it's just 2 tablets, one right away & the other 7 or 14 days later. My son always thought he had them, but looking back I think it was just an itchy bum! :rotfl: (as 3/4 year olds get)
Could tell you a way to check, but it's not very nice. I would just give them the tablets. (and everyone else at home too)0
