    Hi,

My MIL bought an antibacterial laundry liquid when her husband was ill, it's called Halo and I think she bought it from Tesco. It's meant to kill MRSA, c-difficile and things like that.

I lived in India, Pakistan and made trips into Afganistan doing humanitarian aid work for many years. If we became ill we would add savlon or dettol to our laundry, especially the 'smalls'. There are instructions on the back for diluting for laundry.

Sometimes the problem is you reinfect yourself over and over.
I'm sure his medic has told him, but frequent, diligent hand washing is very important, also keeping his immediate area disinfected. I'm not sure what the toilet facilities are but he could be reinfecting himself through a infected toilet. Those Flash type antibac toilet wipes are a great for disinfecting the toilet BEFORE use, or using to wipe down anything his hands may touch and reinfect himself with. In desperation I have also poured boiling water over my cups, culery when I thought I may be reinfecting myself with dirty dishes. Wash and change bedding every day, really you need someone looking after you doing all these stuff, I've done it for colleagues as V&D are very debilitating. It goes without saying only drink safe water. Rehydration powder is good too but really the medic should already be supplying those. If he can get it a bio live yogurt can do much to strengthen the digestive system.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

The vanish powder isn't much use as you have to soak your clothes in the water with it in for about an hour. When my daughter caught one of the superbugs I used a capful of zoflora in my washing as the detol you have to use around half a bottle. Just make sure you put it in the drawer rather than the drum as it can mark clothes. I found a nice citrus one which seemed more unisex.D x

I thought bio washing powder/gel at a sufficiently high temperature was supposed to be enough to kill bacteria. Is that not so?

That is true. Soap is not required at all. The water temperature above 60 degrees kills anything quite quickly. The soap just helps to remove the dirt from the clothing/bedding to make it look clean but the water temperature will kill everything.

As previous reply...Napisan kills germs at 30 degrees.

If this is recommended to keep the lads (I'm assuming he's in the armed forces) healthy while on active duty, surely that is what should be provided for them & all clothing should be automatically washed with it.
