Cheap London Fun - especially bars & restaurants

Hi everyone.
I have very recently moved to London and I am looking for some ideas.
I am on a quite limited budget but would love to know some places that are nice to go for something to eat or a drink & also some clubs that are not extortionate.
I am a female in my mid twenties, I am not really into dance music, but I am quite open to anything else. I stay near Stratford but would probably go out in the centre of town.
I am also open to any other suggestions of things to do on the cheap!
(I am also posting this on the local board - wasn't sure where was best!)

There is always lots to do for free/cheap in London. A good starting point it to check out Time Out ( http://www.timeout.com/london/ ) - you can search for activities and events going on that are free or low cost and there are always plenty of things listed.
For eating out keep an eye on the restaurant vouchers bit of the MSE website - there are often really good deals to be had, particularly if you go out during the week rather than at weekends.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
There are lots of good little places to eat in Soho, many of which are very reasonably priced. One of my favourites is Spaccanapoli on Dean Street, which does authentic Italian pizza by the meter at good prices.
You should consider getting a Taste Card which gives you 50% off on lots of Restaurants: www.tastecard.co.uk. They often have offers on so you can get the card for less.0 -
I'd recommend going to Belgo in soho - use the 'beat the clock' menu (order at 5.54pm, pay £5.54) - its very imposing when you go in, if a little 90's!
Some people have a bit of a problem with the tastecard I personally use a gourmet society card, never had a problem with it. and you can get it on discount HERE
If you are up for something different CrowBar is where most rock bands playing london will go for a pre/post gig drink - Ive met a few stars there - careful with the shooters though they are all very strong!0 -
We find taste card good but always check for special offers on the restaurants website first as this might be a better option. I say I might use either when I ring up depending on the menu they usualy are quite happy with this and once gave me both discounts making it very MSE ! My husband who paid could not understand why it was so cheap!0

Pick up the free newspapers (London Standard, Metro I think) outside the tube too they sometimes list free events0
