I allready have public liability & indemnity insuance.

But when I do a comparison search for insurance when I say I work from home it won't insure me??? Any advice please

You have now moved higher risk and quote comparison sites look at normal residential use. Not commercial use. So, you need a homeworker policy. A local broker can look at these for you but there are also some direct providers as well (e.g. Direct Line do a homeworker policy IIRC -not saying it is the right one for you).

  • Tried direct line they wouldn't insure as I had a escape of water claim in Aug 2010.

Paymentsheild called me with a quote and they said they would £266 a year.

But thinking of contacting local brokers for a few more quotes. Thanks

Check the smallprint about theft of items in the home. It maybe a minefield.

Many mainstream insurers will not cover due to the business use - particularly the type of business and the number of clients visiting the home.

    Maybe try

  • £280 with Paymentsheild and £360 with Homeprotect so think it'll be paymentsheild, they say it makes no difference to the policy that i work from home. Havnt tried a broker yet dont think id get it much cheaper anyway. THank you

Have you made it clear that you have visitors to your home in relation to business and hold stock/tools of trade?

    from policy doc:
There is no need to tell us about trade, professional or business use if:
    • The trade, professional or business use is only clerical; and
    • You do not have staff employed to work from your home; and
    • You do not have any visitors to your home in connection with your trade, profession or business; and
    • You do not keep any business money or stock in your home

It doesnt mean they will reject but you do need to make it clear exactly what the business use is. Also, if you have converted part of the house for business use and its not just a chair in your lounge, then you should make that clear as well. I suggest you take the name and date/time of the person that verifies this as well.

However in most of the cases, insurance companies do not insure the clients who work or run a business from their home as this thing comes in multiple insurance like that of a home insurance as well as business insurance. For this thing a person should clear everything at the time of insurance.
    Be insured and be safe

Excellent. Keep that safe and you will be fine.

Doing little checks like that and keeping the evidence always helps for those minority of cases where a staff member says the wrong thing and then denies they said it.
