Is buying house in Liverpool good investment??

@Alan: Are you being serious?? I don't know when you lived in Mossley Hill but that's so biased, it really hurts. Yes, there is an area in Mossley Hill (very far away from the place we actually choose to live, close to Otterspool Park) close to Smithdown Road which is not a good area. But the area we chose are ONLY home owners. I lived in Liverpool for a few years now, and yes, there are horrible areas. But there were horrible areas in Bristol, where I used to live. There are very good areas in Liverpool and you have to look at it by area and not by looking at the whole city.
I just started a new job in Liverpool. If I based my decision with regards to location on whether I might change my job some time in the future, I would have to live in a camper van...
Did you bother to read my post, I mentioned there are good and bad areas, and where I rented was bad. Mossley hill is large, and I assumed you were going to live near the train station as you aren't driving.
What I find so funny about the whole scenario is some Dad wants to "give" a house for his darling child, yet he is made a fool on a public forum :rotfl: If he is such a subjective and prejudiced person who doesn't know facts and so on, but surprisingly he is richer than you and yet you think he doesn't know his investment right lol
Back to topic, down south in general is less prone to price fluctuations, especially in London, but then that needs a lot of Capital, good investment places are in the fringe of London.
During my time in Liverpool, I have been attacked in queens square, luckily saved by a very kind policeman, jumped in the bus, had rocks thrown at me thrice, had my wheel stolen, had been attacked by chavs in my garden, threatened several times in sefton park and greenbank park. Had bike stolen thrice as well.
But despite all this have family in Liverpool, where I go back often, and nearly all Xmas :cool:0 -

Well I am sorry all this happened to you - Nothing ever happened to me... I know a lot of people though who had more and worse problems in London.
Yeah I read your post but most of it was negative and it didn;t sound like you wanted to make it look positive at all.
Anyway, I am not his dear darling nor am I making a fool of him. I said I don't want to be ungrateful so I am trying to make the best out of the situation. I turned his offer down once, I am only trying to show him some houses in Liverpool because a few weeks ago he seemed to have changed his mind and it sounded he was ok with the idea. But now he changed his mind again. I am not bending over backwards, if he still doesn't want to do it after presenting him with the facts, I will decline his offer again. But I am allowed to try it, am I not?
But the way, as someone mentioned before: No I am definitely NOT buying a house on the Wirral, then sell it again to buy a house in Liverpool! I am not like that.0 -
I lived on the Wirral during my childhood and if I could I would move back to merseyside (I currently live 'down south'). It is a great place to live, I find the majority of people friendly. There are of course bad parts that should be avoided but that is the same anywhere.
One thing to consider when you converse with your dad is to ask him what he means by buying a propery in the 'south' there is a massive difference between, cornwall and London but both are 'down south'.
I believe Liverpool is up and coming, every time I go back there seems to have been noticable improvements both commercially and socailly. Pick the right spot and your house wont go down in price in the medium term (short term maybe but that is the same basically everywhere).

what a load of b0ll0cks ive got a relative lives in mossley hill you cant get a house in there road for less than 300k most of them 400k+ they sell within a week and as for chavs i dont think so, you could get in a car and drive 15mins down the road and it would be a different story but that could be said for most of the country
"price is not a issue" :rotfl:
think it would be0 -

Sorry it's not Mossley Hill directly but nearby - closer to Aigburth by Otterspool Park. But we consider Mossley Hill as well. We looked at a few houses and they were max 250.000 and we liked them.
Price is really not an issue..he just gets his knickers in the twist because his opinion is very biased towards Liverpool.0 -
Just tell daddy that you are thinking of buying in Kensington ......
No thanks...:D
Unless I can sell it to him as Kensington/London...but I don't think that will work..lol
Look he is not "my daddy" and I am not his "spoilt daughter"..this is the first time he ever wanted to buy me something - I lived most of my life with my mum who had nothing. So please don't view it like that. All of you, if they had the chance, would go for it. Even if they deny it. But as I said, I will decline the offer if he sticks to his conditions.0 -

To be honest, he couldn't pay me to live in "Kenny" !! .....
Apologies for using "daddy" - that was unfair.
I understand what you are saying, however my opinion would be that if he wants to buy you a house/home, then that is fine but there should not be any conditions attached.
If he is attaching conditions already then this can only go one way (what if he doesn't like how you decorate it, what if he thinks that you aren't maintaining it how he would, and also what if you want a partner to move in?).
It sounds as though he would always view this as being "his property".0 -

Yeah I know what you mean...I just sent him an email askin him why he actually wants to buy us a house..with a string of arguments why Liverpool isn't a bad investment...let's see what he says...I don't think he would tell me how to decorate it and with him being in Germany there is not much more he can force me to do. But I can see your point..0 -
There's good and bad in every city. Long term Liverpool will be fine, things going for it include:
Tourism - Slave trade, World Heritage Site, Music Heritage, The Arts, Football
Recently won consent for a Cruise liner passenger terminal, which will massively increase tourism
It is suggested that the Peel Waters development will result in £10b of regeneration investment
Liverpool Freeport
Seaforth Container Base - Liverpool docks are still trading well
Football - may sound stupid but it does influence house prices, many of the players from Blackburn, Man City, United, Liverpool, Everton, Bolton live in Merseyside
The city has more going for it that many other small regional cities and seriously punches above it's weight considering how close it is to Manchester.
If it helps with stats, my father bought his house in Liverpool 40 years ago for £8,000 and it's now probably worth £750,000, with very little work having been done to it. Spend £100k refurbishing it and I've no doubt it would be worth north of £1m.
I live in Manchester, were it not for me working here and not wanting to commute I'd move back in a flash - I'd probably live somewhere on the Wirral or North Liverpool such as Crosby or Formby.0
