    Haddock is generally fairly cheap.
And I buy the Salmon fillets in Tesco a bag of fillets is about £10 (think that's 8 fillets).

Also frozen cod fillets are often cheaper than fresh.

I also check out fixtureferrets for deals on prawns and fish as there are often buy one get one free offers.

I used to be like that. I would pick the food we fancied and not look at the cost. Lovely tuna steaks would be put in the trolley, extra large salmon fillets ... then I had a heart attack when I added up one month's shopping bills.

Now we have small salmon fillets, prawns on offer, tinned tuna and anything else is a special treat!!

As for veg, I now make sure I have frozen peas and sweetcorn in the freezer. When the money runs low, I still have these and they still count to the 5 a day. I used to buy tins (still keep one or two as backup) but find frozen is more economical as I only use what we need/want and not the whole tin full! ;)

I often top up with carrots and parsnips as these are lower cost veg and last a fair time in the fridge.

Used to get the prewashed packets of "frilly" salad/lettuce etc but found that to be expensive too and doesn't last long so will save that for the summer months.
