Hi, i am planning on selling quite a few of my dvds on ebay, I was wondering what people think, would you rather pay £1.99 price then £2 postage or £2.99 and £1 (btw i do realise they both add up to the same lol).
But which do you think would get more sold faster?
btw the actually cost of postage ie in stamps is 0.65p.
Thanks for your help.xnicolax i will press all the thanks buttons lol

For some reason some buyers see higher postage than the item price constitutes as excessive postage & putting £1.35 on top of packaging is reasonable.
Don't forget that sending items without tracking (recorded) when accepting paypal will make you open to fraudsters.
I would sell at the first option & offer a £1 discount on repeat/combined purchases within 3 days of original purchase0 -
Doesn't really bother me (as it costs me the same) - in some regards I'd prefer more postage so the buyer ends up with more of the money, but on the other hand with more postage if anything goes wrong you may not be able to get the postage back, just the item value.0

I think buyers are probably more likely to bid at the lower item price as lots won't look at what the postage costs are until they win. However, you're more likely to get criticised for excessive postage - I recently had a feedback comment (albeit in a positive feedback) that my postage was expensive when it was about 50p more than actual postage cost.0

I sold around 500 dvd's in the last 2 months and done soem experimenting with P&P on the same titles. Postage rates up to £2.75 sell just as well as those at 99p.
The majority of DVD sellers pitch the postage around the £2-£2.25 mark, and offer discounts of about £1 per extra disc. The buying market accepts this as reasonable without tearing the posterior out of it!
If you list 2 auctions - one at 99p start £2 P&P, and a secong with £2.99 start and free P&P, you are hardly likely to notice a difference in interest, and all you have acheived is increasing the FVF paid to eBay!!
Also - if you check the weight of the packaged DVD, some cardboard sleeved editions will send ar 100g rate - 44p 1st, 37p 2nd class - and in reality there is no discernable difference in delivery times. I regulary get feedback on 2nd class items the day after despatch!<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I prefer not to attract customers who are too stupid to check postage before bidding.I think buyers are probably more likely to bid at the lower item price as lots won't look at what the postage costs are until they win.
As a customer, it makes very little difference to me what proportion of the total price is "p&p". I may have a marginal preference for a higher item price with lower p&p, just in case there is a problem with the item and the seller is reluctant to refund the postage charge.0 -

Personally, I prefer to know how much I am paying for the item and how much for P&P. Whilst normally it doesn't matter (because the Great Maker gave me the ability to add
), there are many occasions when I buy several items from one seller, so it's good to be able to ask for postage discounts and know exactly where you stand.
As to whether things sell faster/better, I think it depends on the item/category you are selling in. For example, when I started selling, I did an experiment, I sold some items with 'free' p&p for a while, and then sold the same items with the p&p listed seperately. The items with 'free' p&p didn't sell as well.0 -
I think some people for some reason don't think of the P&P as being part of the price. I've seen lots of items go for a similar bid price regardless of postage costs. Any rational person surely combines the two costs and then decides whether to buy. This however doesn't always occur.

depends....psychologically some people see the word "free" and they often think they are getting a bargain, something for nothing...so would therefore go for the free P & P....0
-
I tend to base my decision on how other similar items have sold. Check past sales and then decide.0

just a tip though, i always put put my search in to price order, people will prob bid on things that have a lower start price as these will be the items that come up first on a search.0
