I have just discovered the shocking sums people pay for their mobile phone insurance through a friend up pays 10-15 quid a month. Here are some more

In many cases it seems to be covered through home insurance. However if you claim, your home insurance premiums will presumably rise, unlike the stand alone insurance so is it really any cheaper in the long run?
How much would an home insurance premiums rise after a claim for an iphone for example?

You would need to run some dummy quotes on the aggregators to see the impact, there will be lots of other factors that will impact it so if you have 10 years NCD/ claims free history then that will be different to if you had only 1 year.
There tends to be key differences between the two in terms of if they are new for old or indemnity, sizes of excess, impact of claims on premium and cover for breakdown.
The problem with mobile phones is that you will see a massive spike in claims when new models get released, as contracts run out etc hence you either need very high premiums to cover these claims or very restrictive T&Cs to be able to exclude many of these spurious claims0
