FTB Just Moved in to a new house, Some advice
Hi, I am a first time buyer and i have just moved into a new house. The previous owner got both their gas and electricity from British Gas.
First thing i did when i moved in was take meter readings and called BG. They have set me up a new account on there "standard non discount tariff" on direct debit. She said on this tariff i am free to leave straight away.
As this is our first house we have no idea of consumption so don't know where to go? can anyone offer any advice. Will the current tariff they have put me on be bad value?
There is 2 of us living in the house. Occupied during the evening. Gas central heating and the water is heated by the gas boiler. No power shower. Just the usual tv, internet......

Go back to BG and ask what the total Gas & Elec consumptions were over the past year, by the previous owners.
Armed with these figures you can visit the Switch sites for alternative suppliers, but be aware that one families consumption in any given house, can be very different to that of another family - Either UP or DOWN - so keep a regular eye on your meter to build your own record of a years use0 -
I considered that's but it's 2 28 year olds vs a family of 4 (3 kids ages 6 16 18)Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

Hi marbar2k - I guess that it's you who is one of the pair of 28 Yr olds and not the other way around - family of four?
If so it's still worth getting the previous numbers from BG as that sets an upper limit on what your costs are likely to be.0 -
Hi just use typical average useage figures of 3500kwh for electricity and 16000kwh for gas and see how the results compare to your BG tariff.0

Sorry, yes it is us the 2 28y/o. I'll give them a try with the suggested usage. Is uswitch the best?Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

Hi, try them all to check that they are all in the same ballpark.
Uswitch/UKpower/Energyhelpline/Energychoices/Meerkat/Confused amongst many others.
Once you find a good tariff check on Quidco/Topcashback to see if there are any cashbacks available with the selected cashback.0 -
My head spinning with all this lol. On Martins email he siad about HugeSwitch giving £50, but it ends @ 16:00 today.
I have gone through the site and it tells me with their estimation of usage to go with First Utility. Can can either have their isave dual fuel v10 or isave fixed price v2 september 2013.
what would you recommend? I know its probable the million dollar question, but i dont want to miss out on the £50 cash backTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
