MK4 Astra 1.6 -vs- the Focus 1.6

I really kept it to the specifics because (for example) the Mondeo has been considered & it's simply too big for my mums needs. Similarly the Vectra C.
Also, if i had the choice of a MK2 that'd been thrashed & just comes in on budget with a million miles, or a MK1 with less miles (before it's said, i know miles aren't everything) that seems in better nick then i'd go for the MK1 every time.
That said, her budget may be £2k, but that doesn't mean she wants to spend £2k. She wants a decent deal & to spend as little as possible. Something nice that's going to last some time for a good price. For e.g. i got a 1.8 MK4 Astra SRi in 2008 with FSH for £1,400, which was a very good price back then.
Basically looking for any reasons as to why she should go for the Focus over the Astra, or avoid the Focus (MK1), as i don't know anything about them really.0 -
Thanks, I mean anything that is worth looking for if buy one.benham3160 wrote: »Yes, some of the early (and not so early) mk1 Focus do have some corrosion issues.
Depends what you mean by "rust underneath" though.

Always look underneath for corrosion, No matter how new.
Not unknown for people to find that their brand new car had been repaired.
Accidents happen between the factory and showroom.
This may no show until the cars getting on a bit.
Autotrader 2005 car 65,000 miles. under £2000. And always worth an offer for a fair bit less.
I would rather buy a well looked after and serviced 100,000+ mile car, Than a 40,000 mile car thats not been serviced properly or only done short journeys.
Mileage is not everything. I mentioned a while back mobility cars.
During the snow several mobility drivers started the engines up and left them running for ages to warm up and melt ALL the snow on them.
No attempt to wipe any off.
Starting from cold and sitting there for that long wont be good for the engine. I doubt these cars will hit 150,000 miles+.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
