Recommend a light weight petrol mower please
Hi all,
I am looking after my garden on my own at the moment. The back is 100 ft long, and the electric mower is quite difficult to operate as I'm terrified of the lead!! (which needs a few extension cables too).
Anyhow, I know this is a UK site, and I'm in Dublin, but we have a humongous BndQ..here..
Any recommendations for a north of 40 yrs lady?
Anyone used the battery mowers ?
Many thanks.

Hi, have used both petrol (hard to start) and electrical (annoying lead) mowers in the past. A couple of months ago we bought a bosch battery mower and it is fantastic, cutting the grass in half the time. Look at reviews on Amazon, we got one with two batteries as one battery wouldnt quite cut the whole lawn but it does charge quite quickly. Hubby complained a bit about the price but as I tend to cut the grass he couldnt really moan. Hope this helps.0

Thanks Snowdrop. I did have a bit of a read about the battery mowers, they seem to be ok, if as you say you get two batteries!
Is your garden big?0 -
If you can cut it regularly and not let it get too long between cuts it might be worth getting one with a mulcher. Our mower has one and it saves a lot of time as you don't have to empty the collection bin or dispose of the cuttings. And maybe a self-propelling one as they're not as hard to push.0

This is our one. It's not particularly light but because it is self-propelling it is much easier to push. We've had it for 3 years and had no problems.http://www.cheapmowers.com/acatalog/Ibea_Idea_47SP_47cm__Petrol_Lawnmower_Self_Propelled.htm0

Here's a cheaper one and it's 7kg lighter and it still has a Briggs and Stratton engine. I can't tell you how good it is as I haven't had one, but look around for some reviews.

I always found my Honda Isy easy to use and manouevre although it's a petrol mower and was a sod to start. When I went to the doctor with a shoulder complaint the first thing he asked was whether I had a petrol mower...0
