  • Not happy with travel FX at all.

An error on the delivery date must have crept in on the order online (sometimes there's a default on dates if something else in an online form is altered) which I only spotted because the delivery didn't arrive.

They re-arranged delivery when I emailed in spite of my instructions saying that would be too late - and now I'm stuck with paying for £25 for cancellation or £20 for pre 9am delivery after phoning them.

I buy a lot of tickets etc online and have never had problems with dates before. Will not use them again
  • I found the service to be simple, quick and efficient. BUT, beware the buy back. YES, they will buy back your unused currency, but the differential in rate is bigger than I expected and they don't volunteer it.

Of course, they are out to make a profit and a buy/sell split is part of that. But, if anyone is daft enough to fill in their "Buy Back Form" and post their dosh without checking the rate, well there is no hope for you. As an example, the buy and sell rates today for Euro are 1.3300 (displayed on their website) and 1.4577 (I emailed to ask the question). If you were to buy £1000 of euros, you'd receive Eur 1300.00. Then change those Eur 1300.00 back to sterling and you get back just £912.40.
As I say, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with a buy/sell split. It's just the way they keep the buy back rate so obscure, relying (I am sure) on the foolishness of people to send off their spare currency, expecting to see it converted back at the same rate they bought it. Caveat emptor?
  • I have used Travel FX twice now and have found them to be efficient and a good rate. By mistake I duplicated my order but I rang them and they cancelled one order without any problems.
I am glad I had not read any of the reviews before using them. Maybe they have improved as some of those reviews are pretty old.
  • if your going to spain take sterling you will get a better exchange rate there and you can change it as and when needed so no need to have to sell loads back and as for the Halifax credit card waist of time couldn't find a bank that would except it to get any money out . ps if your planning on getting fags use sterling as they were offering 135 to the pound at the beginning of april
  • USED TRAVEL FX FOR TURKISH LIRA...ORDERED TUESDAY 14TH APRIL 2015, RECEIVED ON SATURDAY 18TH .NO PROBLEM. EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS VERY GOOD, THERE IS A TELEPHONE NUMBER TO CONTACT THEM AND AN ADDRESS...
I WAS ABLE TO TRACK ON ROYAL MAIL SITE..
    I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SITE.
  • DO NOT USE!

Advertised a rate for US dollars of 1.5595. Processed the order and sent an email confirmation...

Heard nothing so decided to call the following afternoon (they send confirmation emails that they have received the funds upto 12:00pm each day). When I called I was told that an email had been sent explaining that they had offered a rate they could not honour!

The person on the telephone refused to give me any further information and the email was sent to me again (it was never sent in the first place).

The new rate is 1.5200, a significant difference and meaning that Travel FX have in effect stolen $60 from me.

Good customer service would be to honour the advertised rate. Good customer service would be to actually call and speak to me to explain the problem. Good customer service would be to offer me a rate at least slightly above what I can get on the website now.

    One extremely disappointed customer.
  • If I had to travel, probably I’ll exchange it in person for more secured reasons. Sometimes, there are no guarantees for a certain service. Maybe it work for other people, but for someone, it didn’t.
  • This is an excellent service, I ordered dirhams for Dubai at the best price, free postage, they arrived 2 days later, signed for delivery!!

Most of these problems seem to be people ordering too late, I didn't see an option for next day delivery, but it came quickly. so as long as you have enough time, it is a brilliant service!

it seems weird doing the bank transfer but that is how they make it cheaper so Im happy to do that and will definitely be using again.

one thing to be careful of is the 'date needed by' at which I put in the latest date I could get them for, but they take it as day you would like them delivered, I realised with the confirmation email, contacted them and they happily brought the date forward!
