New build question

Hello everyone,

A random question on new build. The new builds that my friend at work is buying comes with tv points in various rooms in the house. But would the house then come with a tv antenna on the outside.

When we bought our current house, new build, the antenna came with it. But I am not so sure anymore...... Could someone who bought new build advise.

Ours didn't when we bought one - and had to pay around £120 to get one installed on the roof. All these little things actually add up when you buy a new build as you just assume that everything is fitted!:( But to be honest they are better off getting a dish installed instead as depending on where they are, the reception might be better anyway!

Say the house does not come with an outside antenna, where does the tv points connect to.??

My experience about 6 years ago was that you had to pay for extra TV points beyond the first and that this was simply to ensure the cables were buried in the walls.

The multiple coaxial cables were neatly joined together in the loft with a knot ready to be connected to an aerial or dish and with enough free cable to run to where you might fix it. But no aerial was supplied.

Okay, I gather that probably the tv antenna is probably not coming with my friend's house, but say she gets a sky tv, will she still need an outside arieal, and with the sky tv and no ariel will they be able to watch tv in more than one place. Sorry this is deviating from new build question to tv antenna question......

She will be able to watch Sky without an aerial but I think you need to subscribe to multi-something (channel?) to get Sky on more than one TV in the house otherwise as I looked into doing it but didn't want to pay Sky more than what we were paying for the 12 month standard subscription (I think the guy who came to install it from Sky said that he could fix up some sort of cheaper option if I called him directly if you know what I mean but I would still need some sort of additional box!).

We ended up with free-sat as refused to keep paying Sky rip-off prices but I'm not sure whether we could have somehow got that on different TV's. I think you might need a receiver at each point but I am not entirely sure - there might be some way of "bodging it" free! I'm sure someone will know.

If she wants Sky or Freesat, she needs a satellite dish.

If she wants Freeview, she needs a TV aerial. A loft aerial may suffice, she may not need one on the 'outside' of the house.

To have Sky in more than one room means you need to spend extra on Sky multi-room, which I think is about £100 per box and £10 a month for each box after that.

Alternatively once Sky put the dish in you can get freesat boxes for additional rooms which gives you freeview type channels (not all freeview channels but also some not on freeview). You'd need to run cables from the satellite to those rooms though.
