Is it worth going to both Wookey Hole and National Showcaves Wales or just to one?

Hi all,

I'm in the process of arranging our summer holiday this year and we had previously brought a voucher from KGB for two nights in Herefordshire so thought why not add different places and make a week long holiday of it. So using KGB, Groupon and Laterooms we're going away to a few different places and doing various activities and it's not costing a bomb.

I checked what was near to herefordshire on the Tesco clubcard thing and the National show caves looked lovely so I sent off for the tickets.. (these don't only have to be used here and actually I was debating getting some more to go to Hatfield House) so it's not a waste of money if we don't go.

One of the bookings is at Wookey Hole hotel and included in the price is tickets for the caves etc there.

Is there anyone that's been to both or either etc or lives near to these and could help me to decide whether or not to leave the National showcaves out of my plans as this adds around 2-3 hours to our journey and over £20 in petrol. I was looking forward to going to this but if it's very similar to Wookey Hole then I really don't mind leaving it out.

So what do you guys think should I go to both or just the one?

Also does anyone know if either are very claustrophic inside? I've looked at the pictures and webcams etc and it doesn't look like it is.

Oh and if anyone has anymore ideas for places to visit on the cheap or a worth spending a £ or two to go to near Oxford, Herefordshire, Bristol or Wells please let me know also as i'm a bit stuck for things to do on one or two of the days.

Thanks so much in advance

Maz

My experience of touristy caves are that they have notices up on the bits that people may find clautrophobic. Wookey Hole is great.

You could hire bikes and go down the Strawberry line (converted railway track).

You could also visit Cheddar - plenty of shops and very pretty but also various attractions.

Love the showcaves but thought Wookey hole was very overpriced for what it was. If you are in Bristol there is a big iron ship built by Brunel that was excellent even my moany five year old enjoyed
