Car Insurance Dilemma

It is coming close to car insurance renewal time for my OH so I have been on the comparison sites to get ideas of prices.
Unfortunately he has a couple of convictions and one of them we thought would be over 5 years the day before renewal so not declareable but have since realised it is from date of conviction, not date of offence (there is 2 months between the dates) so the 6 points will stay until September. Also he has 3 points which will be not declareable in July next year (5 yrs will be up then).
On looking at the quotes there is £300 difference due to the 6 points so I thought if he cancelled the policy in September after the 6 points have expired, then next year he will have a clean licence at renewal time instead of waiting for another year because of the way the dates fall, if that makes sense.
We pay for insurance annually so can anyone see anything wrong with taking the insurance out and cancelling it in September to take out a new policy so his 6 points will not then have to be declared, I understand there is a £65 cancellation fee but the difference in price is quite a bit and also it would change the renewal date next year so his licence would then be clean.
Hope this makes sense.
xx

Cancellation costs etc may be more than you hope to save.
Some companies charge a different rate for short term policies.
So you need to phone and ask before taking the plunge. Record the call if you can or get it in writing.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
