Make sure you put the cream on about 20 mins before they go outside so it can work properly. If youve reapplied it 3 times, the only other thing you can do is make sure theyve got a wide brim hat and sunglasses on, and every so often stay in the shade for a bit.

DD tends to go red in the sun but it appears to be more because of the heat rather than burning (her dad is the same) ; we always keep her covered, in a hat and slathered in factor 50. Apart from keeping her in when the sun is strongest, I don't feel there's much more we can do and I prefer her pottering outside than stuck inside all day. Her dad is Scottish and she is VERY fair, but has never been burnt yet.

Wish I could persuade mine to venture outside occasionally...

Invest in some once a day sunscreen and you don't have to worry. If the kids look red smear on some sudocream, it's great for talking the heat out.

If its their faces/necks then a bigger hat may work - maybe one with the flap of fabric on the neck - I can't think what they are called!
Legionnaire's cap. Wish they did them more widely for adults, I've seen some lovely pink ones but only in children's sizes. :(
I gave my 13 yo a lecture on skin cancer yesterday because sun cream is not cool apparently.
Nor is severe sunburn, surely? Well, worth asking.
