Thanks lovinit. As I know, 86 still gets 3 points up here 'cause we don't do SACs.

96 in a 70 is the ACPO guideline for the point at which drivers should be summonsed to court (to receive a hefty fine, lots of points or a possible ban) instead of being offered a fixed penalty (ie 3 points and £60). It's too high for a course in most areas. IIRC Avon and Somerset did once offer speed awareness courses at all fixed penalty speeds, but that was quite a while ago.

The thread is not discussing the threshold that a court summons becomes a reality, rather when a SAC may or may not be offered.

I would also hope that 95mph is too high for a course!!
  • SAC courses are offered whenever they can. Why? because the ACPO gets a cut of the proceeds and then disburses this to Chief Constables as a 'bonus' - on average £60,000 a year per CC(the discussion on how corrupt this is will have to wait till another day).

So i can assure you if they CAN offer her a SAC they WILL, its the CC's bonus on the line .

  • Thank you all for your replies which my friend has seen. She feels more at ease now - she's hoping to get the SAC as she doesn't want her insurance premium to go up. I think she might even enjoy the course as it will be a new experience for her. I'll keep my fingers crossed for her - she really doesn't deserve the points on her license as she usually sticks to the speed limits.
