Oven suddenly stopped working properly

Hi,
We just went to cook lunch and the oven wouldn't come on. I checked the fuse box and the fuse that runs it had tripped. So, turned it back on and the oven "sort of" works now. It is a Brandt double oven (fan). The top half works. The bottom half doesn't (it gives the appearance of working, but it doesn't heat up) so I am wondering if it is the fan that is causing the problem. Before I make the 'phone call to an expert I thought I'd give it a go on here, in case it is something simply that I could try to sort myself.

Thanks to anyone that advises.

Duncan

OH says one of the elements has gone. Sadly this does need an expert, and may be dangerous to use in the main time. It is working through earth instead of through neutral - if you really do have a fuse box, you also need to consider having this replaced with a proper consumer unit.

Elements are easy enough to fit try here for the part http://www.4brandt.co.uk/cooker-oven/element/catalogue.pl?path=638110&refine=element&mkwid=sCWwml2W4&pcrid=10917572573&kword=brandt%20oven%20element&match=e&plid=&gclid=CLX7-5DKoLACFWwntAod9lgAXA

Not sure why it would need an expert unless it's a particularly tricky job... most aren't.

Oh yes, sorry it is a consumer unit, just me being a bit dim.
    Thanks,

The element went on my oven recently and I went into panic mode and was pricing up new ones. I wasn't looking forward to the upheaval of having a built in oven replaced. Then I googled oven repairs and found a lovely local man who reckoned he could repair it. It turned out to be a reasonably simple job (for him) and relatively cheap too.

Why don't you see if you can find someone local and give them a call to see what they say - you might be pleasantly surprised.
I need to make a new list for 2014
think of something to put on it!:rotfl:
Try harder for 2014 as I never managed it in 2012 or 2013

Nothing wrong with cartridge fuse boxes. It is just rewireable fuses which should be changed or upgraded. For the old Wylex rewireable fuse boxes, which are by far the most popular, replacement cartridge fuse units are available

    HI all,

Just thought I'd update what I did with this one.

Realised that the lower oven did actually still work, and it is simply that the fan does not work. So, I now have a normal oven, rather than a fan oven, is how I am seeing it.

When and if I have a spare bit of cash, I will get it turned back into a fan oven! :T

    Thanks for the advice.
