Going on holiday abroad - housing benefit?

I am going abroad for a week and have told the Job Centre that I won't be able to sign as I will be on holiday as from the 2nd June. As I will not be actively seeking work, they are signing me off and paying me up to 1st June. Upon my return I need to phone to arrange Rapid Reclaim. Does this affect my housing benefit? I did ask at the JC but she didn't know!

I think it will affect your housing benefit as JCP automatically notify housing benefit of any changes. Your best bet might be to check with your council yourself and make sure they know you will be/have reclaimed. You'll be back from holiday before they get around to making any changes anyway, unless your HB people are much more efficient than mine!
Also, just to forewarn you, watch out for lots of posts now which won't offer any help but they will start berating you for going on holiday when you're on the dole. Doesn't matter that someone else might be treating you or you've saved for a long time or got a good deal, they'll still have a pop at you.
Ignore them, enjoy your holiday but make sure you contact the HB department when you get home.0 -
my friend went to Ireland for 1 day and told jobseekers. They stopped his JSA for a day and his housing benefit.0

You can continue to claim HB whilst you are on holiday.
However, as previously said, the JCP will notify the Housing Department about your claim being stopped (and you lose your JSA) and your HB will be stopped.
To prevent this happening you need to notify the Housing Department about your holiday and when you intend to do a Rapid Reclaim.
With a bit of luck this will prevent your HB being stopped.
As usual it's all about paperwork

Housing benefit paid whilst on JSA is paid because we know what your income is as JSA have calculated that for us. When this stops, we can still pay HB but need to know what income you had to live on for that time.
When we know in advance that someone is going away, we ask for confirmation of how you will be meeting your day to day living expenses for the period when jsa is not in payment. Normally a statement to say credit cards etc is sufficient.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
All views expressed in my posts are my own opinions and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer.0 -
What! Going on holiday? Lazy !!!!less.:D No, of course i'm joking. Never understand why people can have a cheap dig at folks out of work, usually through no fault of their own having a holiday. Maybe they gave up them smokes and put the cash away for a better use. And me a smoker too. Have fun.I think it will affect your housing benefit as JCP automatically notify housing benefit of any changes.
