Conifer Advice
I planted some leylandii about 18 months ago with the aim of eventually creating a hedge around 6.5 foot high. They have done well and most are now about 5 foot. However, few months ago, a well meaning gardener cut back all the leading stems which are no longer growing. My fear now is that the leylandii will stop growing vertically and I will not achieve my desired height. Can anyone offer any help/guidance?

Hello,
They should be fine. An old next door neighbour was a ruthless pruner and many times would cut her trees/shrubs to just a few twigs, and they'd always come back fighting. This includes a row of 3 leylandis she had as part of a 10ft hedge in spring/summer, which she cut 4foot of one year, and a couple of years later when we moved out, they were fine, and had grown back thicker and taller.

As amy (or oli?) says, you have probably done them more good than harm.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

Presume original post was a joke? You will have your work cut out keeping them to 6.5ft.0

Thanks for responses - I'm reassured!0
