Problems with Opera, not displaying pages properly

All of a sudden about a month ago, Opera suddenly started displaying some pages in long vertical lines. So for instance a headline in a newspaper will be displayed with only a few letters per line and I have to scroll down the whole page to see it.

We have the most up to date version of it and it seemed to do it out of the blue

Any ideas?

My partner also has firefox on this computer as he doesnt like Opera. However, I find it awkward to use as it doesnt seem to store pages ive gone into in the browser bar, although I have put it to 'remember history'.

In opera I would simply put the cursor in the browser bar, put the 'page down' button and it will come up with a list of websites I have put in, they are not 'favourites', just remembered history. How can I do this for firefox?

Modern firefox (anything that is version 4 or 5 onwards - I think we are at 13 now that they ahve their crazy release schedule) will do this with the address bar (they call it the "awesome bar").

The web pages not working is probably just because Opera is a minority browser and the pages weren't designed or tested to work on Opera - most companies will test it works ok on IE, Chrome and Firefox.

Personally I use Google's chrome for 100% of my browsing now as its just the best one our there in terms of speed and reliability in my view. Firefox used to be but it lost its mojo in the past few years, and likes to eat all my memory then crash lots :-)

I use Opera and am not experiencing any problems. I also have the latest version and after they ironed out a few bugs (mainly with eBay) it all works fine.

Could I suggest you check out the Opera Forum - the people there are very helpful and I'm sure will be able to answer any questions.

Also, which version are you using?? I find if you install the new version as soon as it's released, you can be prone to the odd bug they haven't ironed out yet, so go back to filehippo and download the version immediately prior to the one you've got now. Also, make sure your java and flash are up-to-date :)

wherever you download from, the point being the OP could do with going back a version....

Either is fine so long as one has the common sense to avoid clicking on ads. Look - you can even install v3 if you really want to! :D

Dont ever go back a version on web browsers. Never ever ever! The new versions have the latest security fixes. Older versions do not and are specifically targeted for malware. Never, ever go back. Seriously.

The logic is flawed anyway, the newer version may have bugs that the previous one does not, but then it also will have bug fixes that the older version will not have. Version 1.n-1 will not get the fix to a critical bug, whilst 1.n will.

Just reinstall the latest version - that's what I did and all was well.

I'm not sure that all Firefox users will agree! Many were advised to go back from [?] 6, 7 and 8 etc. to a still supported version 3.6.n because later versions caused so much trouble. I just stopped using it as my main browser.

I now use Opera and occasionally get a distorted view when first accessing an MSE forum. Reloading the page corrects it.

i had 11.6.4 (i think) so we uninstalled that one and put back 11.6.2 and still have problems. it started doing it for no reason, nothing else had been changed.

we then installed java and now it keeps coming up with a page of 'errors' on nearly everything, i have to minimise the screen to keep it from driving me mad

however, i have a tendency to click 'remind me later' when ever i get reminders for things and use to have this thing come up all the time, i think it might have been java where i didnt update it. ive never had this big error page before. im not even sure what java is or does
