1dress.co.uk

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum and getting married on 31st December 2012. Has anyone used 1dress.co.uk to buy a dress? If so, I would be grateful if you could share your experiences. I have checked spam adviser and apparently they are 70% safe, but it's always good to speak to people who have bought a dress from them.

Up until last week, I had my dress organised. I bought a beautiful rosetta nicolini dress for £1150 from Berketex in Glasgow around a year ago. It is due to arrive in store in December. However, when my friend, who is also getting married, decided to show me her dress last weekend, I was shocked...it was identical to mine. Obviously one of us has to change our dress and that happens to be me. If I cancel my order with Berketex, I get nothing and if I choose another dress, I only get £50% of the price paid towards it. In light of this, I plan to buy a cheap dress from the internet and sell my beloved dress. I am devasted.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Many thanks

    Is her wedding before yours?
  • Yes. I'm having to go for something completely different than what I had originally picked.

I know it's far from ideal but do you really need to get a new one when it's gonna cost you so much? It doesn't seem fair that your going to lose out?

Will there be many guests who will be at both?

  • Thanks, I know and I have thought of that, but we have so many mutual friends that it would be impossible. Plus, I don't want to wear a dress that my friend has worn. The dress wouldn't feel special. That's why I am looking at a cheap dress online as I simply cannot afford to buy another one from a shop. Hopefully, I would be able to sell my other dress...it's beautiful and will be brand new (I don't even have it in my house yet!)

Unless your dress is really unusual, are you sure people will even notice? To everyone apart from us most wedding dresses look the same anyway! And presumable you have different figures and colouring, will have different hairstyles and veils and so on? It might not be as bad as you think?

Or is there anything you could get done to the dress to make it a bit different that would be cheaper than buying a whole new dress? Straps or sleeves added or taken away? Some sort of sash or bow or belt or something added? neckline altered a bit?

It's certainly a rubbish situation and I really feel for you. Just think, hundreds of other women will wear that same dress, does it REALLY matter that you happen to know one of them? It's still your special dress that you chose and look amazing in!!
  • I know what you are saying and I really wish I felt that I could wear the dress and be happy in it. I have thought long and hard about it, and I know I just wouldn't feel right. I can't find my dress online, but her dress is Mori Lee 6606 and mine is almost identical. If you check it out, you will see that it's quite distinctive. We have similar figures and colouring, but different hair colours. I know thousands of other girls will have worn my dress, but it's just too close to home.

About selling your other dress- even brand new you would be lucky to get 50% of the price- they really don't go for much.

I personally would just just keep the dress and wear it, clearly it is a great dress! However, seeing a that's not what you asked for...

I haven't used the site, but be careful, as many of the sites sell china dresses, and there have been some disaster stories around!

Wait - so it's actually not the same dress?
  • I used this site and it was amazing, the dress is so well made and so beautiful photos cant give it justice their customer service was beyond amazing alot of people need to learn for them. normally you have to order your dress 20 days before it is needed I had issues with another company and only ordered it about 10 days and it arrived so fast I still have a few days to go I would so recommend them I know Im definitely using them again
