Instead of tights?

My daughter gets married soon and I want to look my best, but still be comfortable. The wedding is in August and I'm wearing slingback, peep toe shoes. I should probably wear tights, but the thought doesn't appeal much - "hot and uncomfortable" springs to mind.
Any suggestions of how to make bare legs look acceptable? I don't really want to look tanned. Just an even, sunkissed look would be lovely.
Are bare legs a complete no no for a mother of the bride?

No, not bare legs please.
What about knee highs, as long as you are wearing a long skirt of course.........lolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I would say enjoy the good weather now and start to get a bit of colour on them before the big day. I certainly wouldn't be wearing tights or stockings in August.
If you can't get that sunkissed look, why not fake it a wee bit, without going OTT?4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Personally I'd go for the barely there tights that are made for peep toe sandals and have open toes. These are the kind of thing I mean

I would highly recommend MAC face and body foundation which is oil free and waterproof, dd is yellow toned pale and put this on her legs today as she wanted to wear shorts without tights, the product is very sheer and can easily be layered, she didn't want a tan either just to take away that glaring white, although she has tried the product in a small amount before, today was the first time she used it all over her legs as she was thinking of going to the beach and her legs were paler than her body, I cant tell you how amazing her legs looked I couldn't stop looking at them they had a slight gleam and her skin tone was very even which it normally isn't, she'll be back later and I'll ask her how it stood up to water and if it wore off on her clothes, I'll report back:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

This is excellent, it's like spray-on tights and doesn't transfer easily. You can usually get it on offer for £7 or less.
Please don't wear tights with sling back, peep toe shoes. Skin-coloured tights will reflect light in the sunshine/photography flash and be very obvious.0 -
I am really against tights and stockings, they are hot and uncomfortable.
If you would be more comfortable bare legged, then so be it. If you are worried about the color of your legs have some tan put on professionally put on them.0 -
What different views! Myself, I think peeptoe sandals look daft with tights. I would ask your daughter what she thinks, and canvas other close female family members - so maybe you can all make a pact.
The I would get a serious pedicure (if necessary get a prelim a couple of weeks before as well) a professional hair remove. Spray tan depends on what your legs look like. Smooth heels and good nail polish will look very good IMHO.0 -
Thanks for all the replies so far. Pretty sure the "no tights" vote has it.
The knee high tights idea gave me a hilarious mental image. Dress is just below knee, so that would look interesting to say the least. I knew I should have gone maxi!
I'm fairly sure that the brides response would be to wear what I like. She's not much of a bridezilla, thank goodness. Other daughter is chief bridesmaid and highly unlikely to wear tights either, so that should help.
Years ago I don't suppose ladies would feel properly dressed at a wedding without tights/stockings, but can't help feeling that times have changed.
I'm a little bit worried about leg makeup. I can't quite believe that it would be that easy. I'm trying not to waste money on useless products, so any first hand experiences would be very helpful. From the sounds of it the Mac face and body might be worth a look.
Skyllo - have you tried the Sally Hanson yourself? I was looking at some reviews earlier for that and it looked like another possibility.
Thanks everyone!0 -
Forgot to add. I've been sanding my heels like mad and will add a nice new nail polish to the shopping list. Any excuse to buy new makeup!0

Yes, I have a bottle in the cupboard. It's easy to apply - although I managed to aim badly and get some on my wall.
Best to do it in a bathroom! I've very pale legs and they gave them a nice natural glow and just generally made my skin look better. I think I got the shade 2 out of 4 so I imagine shade 1 is very pale! It doesn't transfer easily, it needs soap to get it off.
I've heard great things about Mac Face and Body too but I heard it separates eventually? Is that true glowgirl? It's a big bottle so would be MSE but only if you can use it before it goes off.0
