Ebay star ratings change

Options
Just noticed that the ebay star ratings feedback has changed, you now can't rate a seller on "Communication" if there has been no direct communication between buyer and seller.

Supposing you want to post a lower star rating because the seller didn't communicate?

  • The seller must display a 1 day handling time and mark as dispatched within this time, if they have then eBay has communicated on their behalf (eBay sends order confo and dispatch confo, what else do you need?), if you message the seller or visa versa then you can rate comms.

How does this work if you sell something on a Saturday afternoon? I obviously can't post on a Sunday, so I can't despatch until Monday. Is the eBay system smart enough to work out that Sunday isn't a working day and it therefore isn't included in the handling time?

My thoughts exactly it'll just encourage buyers to leave more negs and neutrals or mark down other stars.

Sellers can turn this off so it's not going to happen for all sellers

Sellers can not turn off the order conformation or dispatch emails. The can choose not to mark as dispatch to stop the dispatch email but then they won't qualify for the auto 5 stars.

As above all sellers communicate, marking down other stars or leaving negs because of comms when the auto 5 stars applied would most likely been seen by eBay as feedback abuse.

When you shop on Amazon what emails to you get for the purchase?

It's one working day, weekends and bank holiday factored in (allowing for eBay incompetence!)

If you currently score well on your communications, you have nothing to lose by this system.

It's designed for the purchase of items which you don't have to ask questions about beforehand or request extra information for afterwards. If there's a problem it's up to the seller to communicate properly.

I'd never mark anyone down for not communicating. I don't tend to want long conversations or excessive emails/messages from everyone I buy from. I don't think if I buy a mobile phone charger or a hairband I need umpteen emails saying it's been paid for/packed/dispatched/whatever - I just want the object itself.

It's mainly to cover eBay's behind because all the spam they were sending out to buyers was rebounding on sellers. I think it might have been more use to stop the spam, but Amazon send a load of bumf anyway, I can't really work up any excitement/anger about this tbh.
