An additional line was fraudulently added to my tmobile account.
A CIFAS marker was added to my credit history.

Is this going to affect my ability to get credit? As it seems unfair when it wasn't something I did.

Get it sorted if I was you as having a cifas on your credit file when applying for credit will result in rejection Everytime.0 -
Also I've read most stuff will get referred. Does this include getting things in store? Ie. A phone contract or something? This would be rather annoying to apply in-store then have to have it referred.0

Referred then declined from the underwriters is the normal route.
Cifas marker looks worse then bankrupt on a credit file and that is saying something.0 -

Even if it is only a Cat 2? It says on the Cifas site that lenders can not reject me for a Cat 1 or Cat 2 CIFAS marker, they just have to verify my identity.0 -
I've sent them an email asking them to remove it anyway but knowing T-Mobile they will take forever.0

Cifas on a credit file doesn't always mean a decline. Lending can still be approved where a Cifas marker is present. It depends why the marker was placed on there.0

Being a victim of impersonation shouldn't affect your ability to get credit, even though there is a Cifas marker present. Whoever is assessing your request will be able to see why the marker was applied.0 -

Whilst that's good in principle the reality of the situation is some lenders don't follow protocol and will still arbitrarily decline applicants with any kind of CIFAS marker whatsoever - especially current accounts.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I can confirm that though 1 or 2 markers are not meant to affect your ability to get credit, In reality online applications get referred all the time and underwriters most of the time(in our case all the time) just reject the application rather than go through the tome consuming verification process.
Happened to my OH, though we managed to get the CIFAS removed due to a technicality, normally a CIFAS marker for Victim of Identity fraud is rarely removed. In our case the sex of the applicant was wrong so we were able to fight that just because the name and date of birth matched(address and sex was different) they could not put the application and marker on OHs file. of course one of the reasons was also that since the two set of data(address and sex) was different they refused to discuss details of the application with my OH so we wrote to them that they either discuss it with us in detail or remove if they did not want to end up in court. As usual the lender preferred just putting it under the carpet and removing the markers rather than chase the criminals as £450 of fraud seemed to be worth less to them!!!.
BUt the end result was for nearly a year until they removed the marker , OH got rejected for everything, mobile phone, current account, credit cards. OH had a clean credit file, stable local authority job(in those good old days), not more than 3-4 applications for anytype of credit per year, and not more than 3/4 of annual income as available credit. and I am talking about days when they threw credit at you willynilly.
thats the problem with CIFAS markers they are meant to help the victim but the ground reality is that they persecute the victim and the perpetrators go scot free as the lender just puts the marker on victims file and takes the fraud as business loss without pursuing it with the police (atleast most of the time).:beer::beer:0
