I want to study dietetics at Plymouth Uni in 2007. I applied very late for the course but I'm hoping that I'll be accepted!
I'm curious to see if there are any Plymouth students who are on this site and whether they can tell me more about the university (mix of students etc) and how much accommodation will cost.
Many Thanks!

Went to Plym Uni between 98-01 so obviously a little while ago now.
Enjoyed my time, friendly people overall although I think the nightlife has decreased over the last few years with regards to clubs etc.
There's a good racial mix at uni. I was paying around £50 pw exclusive for shared accommodation but obviously this will be higher now. Halls of residence always a great place to meet people but be prepared you could end up with bad neighbours, housemates etc(who may be really messy or wil nick your food etc) although not the end of the world because you should be able to swap if really necessary. And as annoying as some could be, you also meet some great ppl. I still keep in contact with half a dozen people.
I suggest you contact the uni and speak to accom services. Always very helpful when I was there.
Lovely place to study if you enjoy the sea, plenty of surfing, opportunity for beach visits etc.
Worth looking into companies/trusts that give grants to certain areas of study. I recieved £1000 one year from the studley college trust(think that was their name) because I was doing an environmentally based BSc.
And there's the infamous Cap'n Jaspers who serve half yard hot dogs down on the seafront. Mmmmmm0 -
I'm currently at Plymouth doing physiotherapy....we share the same building as the dietetics students. I think in your first year you're on the main Plymouth uni campus, then in 2nd/3rd years you're up at the Peninsula Allied Health building opposite the medical school and Derriford hospital. The dietetic kitchens there are incredible....really excellent facility. Are you coming to an open day?
To be honest, I'm a SW girl anyway....so a bit biased! But it is great down here! There's a good mix of students - maybe not in dietetics though....very female oriented still!
Are you a mature student or new and going to be living in halls? Ever been to Plymouth before? Will you be getting an NHS bursary?
And yes....like the last poster said....Cap'n Jaspers is essential - 60p mugs of tea and enormous burgers on the historic Barbican next to the sea....lovely
If you have specific questions pm me. :A0 -
im at plymouth in final year just about to graduate and im honestly going to be sad to go. its cheap, fun and great nightlife so id thoroughly recommend it. racial / gender mix overall is great but obv if you do a course like mine (computing) its going to be mostly boys lol. housing is good and its generally very safe. good luck! xxxxxxxxx0
